Dallas Galleria Shopping Mall
As part of a major renovation project, the Dallas Galleria hired REM to develop and install a series of interactive light sculptures. The sculptures consisted of two types of elements: illuminated cube benches and life-sized jungle animals. A custom communication protocol was used to allow the elements to communicate with each other over installed CAT-5 cables. The benches contained sensors so that when they were sat upon, the corresponding animal (of the same color) sequentially illuminated and de-illuminated until the bench became unoccupied.
REM architected the communication system and developed the electronics and firmware for each of the eight elements. REM also developed lighting endoskeletons for the animals and managed the manufacture of the benches and animals exteriors.
